Print and Education from TwitterTennis

@ Nice for you drop by, just having a convo with at #printalk about newspapers, new Print tech and writers.

@ Yes but their focus is direct marketing. Think we are thinking beyond that application, no?

@ What I was just about to say is if good newspaper writers did replacement for textbooks, it would be cool. #printalk thgts?

@ToughLoveforX Hey! I do think that would be cool, esp. if there were a broad range of diff writers' POVs represented in each text #printalk

@ Yes thx for amen. My 2¢ is a personalized newspaper written correctly gives a gezillion teachable moments. #printalk

@ Do you remember Weekly Reader? might be before your time. But Weekly Reader written by real people for real ppl.

@toughloveforx I LOVED Weekly Reader! I looked forward to it. Got me interested in reading papers & news mags #printalk

@ToughLoveforX Got Scholastic News in my own classroom. It's decent, but not quite the same. Could just be a nostalgia thing. #printalk

@ So ya know what I mean. So how about Weekly Reader on Health Care, the Economy, Science.? #printalk

@ yeh. So how cool would it be to do that, except with the writing from kids and teachers in the building? #printalk

@TeacherSabrina So I figure a mentor - either a teacher who write good - or a displaced journo. Start real convos in school. #printalk

@toughloveforx Would be so useful! Great for class debates, teaching persuasive writing. I used Schol. News for that, but had to supplement.

@toughloveforx That would be amazing. So empowering for kids! #printalk Why isn't anyone doing that? Is someone moving on that?

@ The thing is the tech is there. Newspapers and printers need new markets. Seems doable to me.

@TeacherSabrina Pretty close. Just needs someone to hook up the pieces in place.

@toughloveforx My students and I wrote a book, but couldn't find a low cost printer. Would totally have given them our biz. #printalk

@ my 2¢ if you frame "Class" as "Publisher" you could pay for the book by selling to Grandmas and other folks. #printalk

@ Have you ever considered, instead of buying from a Printer, partnering with a Printer? Split whatever revenue? #printalk

@
@toughloveforx Yeah. There is definitely a built-in market. Parents are into it, too. #printalk Think also of the kids' pride; what a boost!

@ Plus if you get the kids to take it on as a Publisher to make money to do more books. They would luv it. #printalk

@ "My students and I wrote a book" still want to get a printed version? Maybe #HelpPrintThrive could hook it up? #printalk

@toughloveforx Not sure I have the original pages, though I do have our "finished" book, which might still be bind-able...?

@ Plus if you get the kids to take it on as a Publisher to make money to do more books. They would luv it. #printalk

@toughloveforx Yeah. There is definitely a built-in market. Parents are into it, too. #printalk Think also of the kids' pride; what a boost!

@ Any chance you have the digital files? Either in Word or equivalent or maybe PDF? #printalk

@toughloveforx Did everything by hand. Scanned most of the pages, but the comp. they were on died :( (I now back up religiously.) #printalk

@ Not a big problem. So now I have to see if there is a way to hook you up. Meanwhile how bout "Weekly Reader" #printalk

@toughloveforx Cool, thanks! :) And yeah, whatever happened to them? #printalk

@ Not sure but I think they can't do it. It needs kids/teachers as journos to make sense inside the building. #printalk

@ in context of Journalism as a theme, it would be neat for the kids to do Their Weekly Reader. #printalk thgts?

@ So now I have to go asynch. But check this out Maybe we can get this going.
